Who or what is Tangerine Dream?

Tangerine Dream is a performing group who's music tends to defy any explanation and attempts to pidgenhole into any distinct classification. Since its formation in 1967, there was no 'New Age' or 'Contemporary Instrumental' section in your record store. TD's musical style and artist line up are never static or predictable.

TD's current line-up consists of Edgar Froese, his son Jerome, and Linda Spa. All three play synthesizer/keyboards, Edgar & Jerome also play electric guitar, Jerome plays percussion and Linda plays Sax.
Currently, TD's musical output consists of 27 Studio Albums, 9 Live Albums, 19 Soundtracks and 9 Compilations. One should also not forget the 6 Grammy Nominations!

Some interesting TD trivia:

TD became the first West German band to play in East Germany, pre and post reunification
TD was also banned by Pope Paul from performing in Catholic catherdrals (The incident in question was notorious December 13, 1974 Reims Cathedral concert. (The seating capacity of the cathedral was exceeded a bit.)
TD had a concert reviewer quote, "Last night I saw God and/or Tangerine Dream!" (This is attributed to the infamous and late Lester Bangs (The story being that Mr. Bangs was dosed up on a mite too much cough syrup, resulting in the aforesaid quote.)
TD is also in a way credited for the development of the hard-sided, castered 'roadie case' now used by bands on tour to house and protect their instruments.
_Exit_ was my first TD album back in 1981. After a week of playing it over and over (much to the dismay of the Parental Units) I went out and bought five more.....and I haven't stopped. TD remains my favourite performing group to this day.
